CORO DEL TEATRO REGIO DI PARMA

The debut as a chorus at the Verdi Festival was on the occasion of the final evening of the International competition “Maria Callas – New voices for Verdi”, organized by the Italian State Television channel (RAI) in collaboration with the Verdi Festival Foundation.  Since 2001 it has taken part in both the Opera seasons and the Verdi Festivals at the Teatro Regio, offering a flexibility which goes from 24 elements to over one hundred in symphonic productions.  The chorus has collaborated with Claudio Abbado, Rudolf Barshai, Bruno Bartoletti, Vladimir Fedoseev, Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgo, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Mutti, Daniel Oren, George Pehlivanian, Zoltan Pesko, Michel Plasson, Yuri Temirkanov and Juraj Vacuha.  As well as the major European opera scores of the XVIII and XIX  centuries, the chorus has taken on an ample sacred and symphonic repertory which includes the Requiem Mass by Mozart, Verdi, Brahms, Fauré and Cherubini.  Verdi’s Quattro pezzi sacriCarmina Burana by Orff, Beethoven’s  Ninth symphony and the Missa Solemnis, Vivaldi’s Gloria in re major, Die Schopfung by Haydn, Bach’s Magnificat, Mozart’s Messa in do minor and Messa in do major, the Petite Messe Solonelle by Rossini, Handel’s Messiah, Britten’s War Requiem and Dvorak’s Stabat Mater.  Amongst works from  the contemporary repertoire,  il processo by Albert Colla and La Morte di Kinghoffer by John Adams.  Of particular interest is the realization in scenic form of  Szenen aus Goethes Faust by Schumann and Assassinio alla Cattedrale by Pizzetti which was recorded on DVD.  By taking part in “Vox Musica per Coro” the chorus embraced  the repertory of sacred cappella  music without accompaniment from the renaissance to contemporary composition.  The chorus has undertaken numerous tours to, amongst other cities, Paris, Wiesbaden, St Petersburg, Seoul, Mexico City, Beijing, Muscat and Oman.  In 2010 the chorus received the Opera Oscar and in 2011 the International Opera prize  “Mario Tiberini”.

FILARMONICA DEL TEATRO REGIO DI PARMA

The philharmonic was formed for the 2013 Opera season at the Parma Teatro Regio, following public auditions in which musicians from all over Europe, the United States, Russia, Brazil and Panama took part. The Orchestra performed in the Verdi production of Un ballo in maschera conducted by Massimo Zanetti and Francesco Ivan Ciampa and Nabucco guided by Renato Palumbo and Francesco Ivan Ciampa. In the same year, for the first time during the Verdi Festival, the orchestra interpreted  Falstaff at the Verdi Theatre in Busseto conducted by Sebastiano Rolli.

FILARMONICA ARTURO TOSCANINI

The Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, set up in 2002, has been the musical partner of the Fondazione Teatro Regio since 2013.  The Philharmonic has performed in all the principal concert halls guided by the batons of, amongst others, James Conlon, Charles Dutoit, Eliahu Inbal, Lawrence Foster, Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Dmitrij Kitajenko, Emmanuele Krivine, Yoel Levi, Lorin Maazel, Kurt Masur, Zubin Mehta, Krzysztof Penderecki, Michel Plasson, Georges Pretre, Mstislav Leopol’dovic Rostropovic, Pinchas Steinberg, Jeffrey Tate, and Yuri Temirkanov.  Many famed solo performers have performed with the Philharmonic, amongst whom Maxim Vengerov, Stanislav Bunin, Mischa Maisky, Mariella Devia, Vladimir Spivakov, Placido Domingo, Anna Caterina Antonacci, Mike Patton, Lucio Dalla, Uto Ughi, Salvatore Accardo, Marco Rizzi, Steven Isserlis, Boris Petrushansky, Natalia Gutman, Juan Diego Flórez, Sonia Ganassi, Sharon Isbin, Sergej Aleksandrovic Krylov, Mario Brunello, Shlomo Mintz, Ivo Pogorelic, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Uri Caine, Rudolf Buchbinder.  The repertory has been enlarged over the years  and  the XIX century favourites have been joined by more modern compositions which involve a new generation of conductors of the calibre of Kazushi Ono who has been chief guest Conductor at the Philharmonic since 2012.  Other renowned names are Vladimir Jurowski, Carlo Rizzi, Tugan Sokhiev, Tomáš Netopil, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Michele Mariotti, Lawrence Renes, Wayne Marshall, Tan Dun, Asher Fisch, Stéphane Denève, Pietari Inkinen, Christian Arming and John Axelrod. The music offered to the City of Parma culminates with the Concert Season entitled Nuove Atmosfere, now in its eighth edition.
