To be reunited, to recognize each other after months apart, to rediscover the joy and the power of live music, being moved by its beauty, to diffuse its sparkles around us and share its wonder and emotions on new occasions and in new ways. Such is the spirit with which the Teatro Regio di Parma is resolutely working on the Festival Verdi new program, “Sparks of Opera”, which will celebrate this year its twentieth anniversary in Parma and Busseto.
The new program will be announced in a video press conference in live streaming on the Theatre’s Facebook page, Monday June 8 2020 at 11.30 am, in the presence of Federico Pizzarotti, Mayor of Parma and President of the Teatro Regio, Anna Maria Meo, General Manager of the Teatro Regio and Artistic Director of the Festival Verdi, Barbara Minghetti, Project Manager of Verdi Off, Michele Guerra Cultural Councillor at the Comune di Parma.
Verdi’s great music will cancel the distances, multiply and expand the spaces, crossing theatres boundaries to irradiate its enthusiasm all over the city, resonating in the streets, vibrating in the parks and squares of Parma and Busseto, animating our courtyards and neighbourhoods, in the city’s suburbs as well as in its centre, embracing both the guests of places of care and hospitals as well as prisoners.
In such troubling times for both life and art, the Festival Verdi wishes to celebrate its twentieth anniversary in this way, and with the audacity and enthusiasm of its youth, it won’t stop. Unable to stage the works that have were announced, either in theatres or in monumental places, due to public health regulations, the Festival will bring them to life and share their strength and power by other means and in different places.
“We have immediately started working night and day, driven by the desire to celebrate the XX Verdi Festival as we announced it last February, – declares Anna Maria Meo, General Manager of the Teatro Regio di Parma and Artistic Director of the Festival Verdi – carefully following the pandemic evolution and following the related regulations provided by authorities, to ensure public health, analysing all possible scenarios and varying our organizational plans accordingly, several times, in order to be ready to start over again. A complex program as Festival Verdi’s, with 4 debuts in 4 consecutive days, during 4 weeks requires a context which, unfortunately, is not available nowadays. For this reason, after having examined every plausible solution and having carefully evaluated the sustainable ones, we’ve chosen to return to the very essence of music and of theatre: the relationship with the public, to which theatre and music should never give up in any case, at the same time putting the protection of its health first, as well as that of workers and artists. For this reason, while continuing to listen and dialogue with both institutions and authorities, we have imagined and developed different ideas and narratives, that could allow us to reunite artists and spectators live. I am deeply grateful to the institutions, partners and sponsors who, in this moment of uncertainty and of difficulty, have nevertheless offered their support and shown their closeness to the Teatro Regio di Parma and the Festival Verdi, allowing us to continue our activity in the wake of our original path”.
INFORMATIONS AND TICKET OFFICE
Refund procedures for subscribers to the XX Festival Verdi as it was announced last February are to be communicated through a dedicated press release in the next days. The correspondent sales campaign is to be considered definitely cancelled.
